Mit dem Besuch von US-Präsident Barack Obama zur Hannover-Messe 2016 rückt das Transatlantische Freihandelsabkommen TTIP wieder in den Blickpunkt. „Das geplante EU-USA Liberalisierungsabkommen hat bislang ausgerechnet in Deutschland relativ wenig Unterstützung gefunden, obwohl Deutschland zu den Hauptnutznießern gehören wird“, sagt Prof. Dr. Paul J.J. Welfens vom Europäischen Institut für Internationale Wirtschaftsbeziehungen (EIIW) an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal.
